About me
Hi, my name is Alice, I created Gardens of Arduinna in 2024 to realise a long time dream, growing flowers in a sustainable manner in Naas, co. Kildare. I grow seasonal flowers, using methods having low impact on the land and nature. My growing space is a pesticide-free, artificial fertiliser-free sanctuary guided by permaculture principles - capitalising on biodiversity, soil health, and ecological balance.
I believe flowers should be grown with care, not chemicals. That’s why I avoid pesticides and synthetic inputs. I use natural composting, mulching, and companion planting. I employ permaculture practices to create a self-sustaining ecosystem.
All my flowers are local, ethical, and deeply rooted in the Irish landscape.
Inspired by Arduinna
I chose the name of my company as a tribute to Arduinna, the Celtic goddess of nature, forests, and wild animals. Arduinna was a powerful symbol of wilderness and protection. She was often depicted riding a wild boar, representing her fierce guardianship of the forest and its creatures.
Arduinna’s mythology reflects:
- A deep spiritual connection to nature;
- The sacredness of wild places;
- The balance between cultivation and wilderness.
Naming my garden after her, is a way to remember the ancient wisdom that sees nature as a living system to respect and care for. Arduinna's story
is a reminder to grow with respect, honour the cycles of nature, and work in partnership with the land.
This mythic thread runs through every bouquet — flowers that feel both grounded and enchanted.
Providing a shelter for pollinators
Pollinators and local wildlife are at the heart of everything I do. Every space I create is designed to offer reliable sources of food, natural shelter, and a safe environment where these essential species can thrive. One of my goal is to create a space that supports biodiversity and strengthens the ecosystems we all depend on.
Why I start my flowers from open pollinated seeds
I grow most of my flowers starting from open pollinated seeds.
Starting from seed allows me to grow in a more sustainable way, reducing transport, packaging, and waste.
My flowers are grown in local soil and weather, they’re naturally better adapted to our climate, healthier, and far more resilient.
This approach also supports the surrounding ecosystem — from soil to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Choosing locally grown cut flowers means fresher blooms, a lower environmental footprint, and arrangements that reflect the Irish seasons.
